Fight the "cabin fever" this winter and visit Pawnee County Kansas. We are home to Historic Fort Larned which is rated one of the top well preserved old west forts in the nation. Pawnee County is also the home of the Santa Fe Trail Center & Museum and Sibley's Camp. The museum and trail center are a must see and offer a fantastic look at the history of the area. This important geographical location was noteworthy to the early explorers and pioneers on their way to Santa Fe, New Mexico. The area had also been an important camp and hunting site for several native plains tribes. The hills overlook the confluence of two rivers and what was called the grand hunting ground of the plains bison. The area has RV sites at West Wind Villa and Santa Fe Trail RV. Hotel lodging and some great Air B&B sites are available also. The National Historic Site at Fort Larned is located 6 miles west of town and the Santa Fe Trail Center is on the west end of town.
