Pawnee County Solid Waste Facility
The Pawnee County Solid Waste Facility is a convenient drive just minutes south of Larned. The facility handles household trash, demolition and construction waste, tree and shrub waste, metal, and grass clippings.
The Landfill will be experiencing some maintenance work between the dates of October 16th-20th, 2023. During this time trash trucks will not be dumping at the landfill however they will be picking up your trash and taking it to another landfill during this time period. If you have small trash items you may bring them out. We will still be accepting construction and demolition waste along with limbs, brush, metal, and grass clippings. New Equipment for Freon Disposal
The Pawnee County Landfill now has the equipment to safely drain your old appliance of all freon before you discard it. Give us a call at 620-285-2016 to make plans for your disposal of old appliances such as refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, etc.
Landfill Notes
Sort your trash first. Our Landfill has 5 major different categories:
1. Regular Trash
2. Construction & Demolition
3.Metal
4. Grass
5. Limbs & Branches
Do not put grass or branches in your regular trash, these items go to the grass pile of limb pile. When you do bring out your grass, make sure it is free of garbage and dump it in the grass pile up front and place your plastic bags in the trash can provided. It is also wise to call if the weather has been wet so you can check on the accessibility of the Construction & Demolition dump site or the branch & limb pile. When it rains it gets very muddy out there so you might wait until it has a while to dry before you go out there. The landfill will take metal items like appliances, fencing, shelves, etc., however if you have a refrigerated appliance that needs the refrigerant drained, tell the guys so they can drain it first before dumping. The landfill will also take motor oil however you might check around to see if anyone may have an oil burning heater and they will gladly take the used oil off your hands. The landfill also takes Household Hazardous Waste twice a year on the first Saturday in May and October at the Road & Bridge shop on Trail street. We are currently checking into E-waste options and how we can best serve the public on that also so we will keep you updated on what is decided. Any documentation you may need can be found below.
The biggest thing to remember is to tie down your load and make sure it is secure BEFORE you come out to the landfill. We've all seen those individuals who have a huge pile on their truck or trailer without tying it down and it ends up all over the road. This is not only against the law, it is dangerous to other drivers, so SECURE YOUR LOAD! We don't want to see anyone get hurt because of debris in the road.
Grass Clippings and Tree Branches
The Pawnee County Landfill has a dump site for grass clippings right inside the front gate. There are a few simple rules to follow:
1) Please keep all trash out of the clippings. It is important that this is done because we recycle the material.
2) If you bag your clippings dump them on the pile and place the empty bag in the trash can.
3) Please remember that all branches and tree clippings go to the burn pile.
Remember that the Landfill hours on Saturday are now 8AM UNTIL 4:30PM
